Press Release: Follow the Litigation process: DCA vs ICANN & ZACR.

Welcome to the Government Reserved Name Portal

The Government Reserved Names Policy objective for the dotAfrica gTLD is to promote adoption and usage of the dotAfrica TLD and create an efficient, effective and stable launch, while deterring eventual abusive registrations.

While the Sunrise process provides for the introduction of the dotAfrica TLD in an orderly way, which takes into consideration reasonable protection and priority for relevant prior rights, the Government Reserved Names Policy is designed to further deter abusive registrations and to create a stable and effective launch, which promotes adoption and usage. Parts of the Government Reserved Names Policy are intertwined with the Sunrise process and the agreement between ICANN and the dotAfrica Registry.

The dotAfrica Registry is committed to the introduction of the dotAfrica TLD in a way that takes into consideration reasonable protection and priority for relevant prior rights and to curb abusive registrations. This Government Reserved Names Policy is not intended to circumvent the opportunity for Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) holders to claim their rights for domain domain under the dotAfrica TLD. Activated reserved names are subjected to the dispute resolution policies as with all other domains registered via accredited registrars.

The Government Reserved Names Policy is specifically intended to be used by Governmental officials only. This means that the Government Reserved Names List, its associated processes and reservation methods are not for the use of general registration of dotAfrica domain names.

Reserved names can be reserved online here by nominated Government officials (Representatives) from 30 August 2013.

In the interim, please review the RNL Policy and RNL Guidelines to assist with your decisions.

Government User and approved Reserved Names will be made available to the public at large on this website.
